Libraries as city living rooms

Keijsers regularly provides customised interiors for various libraries in our country. Nowadays, these are increasingly named as real living rooms of the city. And rightly so, in fact. Because besides functionality, atmosphere is certainly an important element as well. A meeting place for young and old requires spacious coffee corners, large reading tables, a children's corner and various themed areas. How are the books presented and with which furniture and carpets do you create the right look?

All these questions are answered together with the interior designer at an early stage. Then the assembly and installation process begins, followed by the 'proud' delivery with all co-creators, because these are the fun creative projects that demand uniqueness, creativity and craftsmanship.

Neude Library

We collaborated on De Bibliotheek Neude with its rich history in the beautiful building on De Neude in the heart of Utrecht.

There is much to tell about this former premises of Utrecht's Main Post Office - the place where the Library is housed today. The Main Post Office will serve until the end of October 2011, when it will be the last one in the Netherlands to close its doors for good. After the post office closes, the possibility of the Central Library being housed in the building will be considered in 2014. Plans and drawings are being made, built, converted, moved and furnished to create a library well suited to the 21st century. Keijsers Interiors was able to build and install a lot of custom-made furniture and contribute to 'this living room of the city'. The reading table, benches, information desks, pantries and workstations are typical pieces where details make the absolute difference. Acoustic wall panels have also been used to help create a 'warm' environment.

On 13 March 2020, the Neude Library will open its doors. For and with the city, 125 years of a library! From a public reading room where initially nothing was lent to a public library with thousands of books for everyone.

HUB Kerkrade - a jewel in the south!

The HUB Kerkrade Culture Cluster brings residents together! Creative guide Aat Vos brings the library, the theatre and other cultural partners together under one roof, and with success. His mission is to turn public spaces into 'third places'. As an addition to your workplace and your home. The 'third place' is the place where everyone feels at home, regardless of age, origin or status. A place that is freely accessible and also accessible. And also relevant to the surroundings.

Through a public tender, Keijsers Interiors was awarded the contract for the customised interior. An interior with furniture for the various specific functions within HUB. An interior in which the visitor feels welcome in his own 'third place'.

Best library in the country

The School 7 Library is in Den Helder, 2,800 m2 in size. Not just for books but above all again as the city's living room. Woningstichting Den Helder invited architect Marcel van der Veer to design it. Keijsers Interiors was selected as builder of the specific customised interior.

School 7 won the prestigious Public Library of the Year Award 2018 in the category 'new library in an existing building'. An international award that recognises new and innovative libraries. Award judges appreciate the way the library collaborates with local partners. They also cite the library's unusual architecture and interior design as extraordinarily striking.

School 7 was chosen as the best out of four more libraries in the world. Last year, the library was voted the best in the Netherlands. Several reasons make School 7 a particularly prized Library as it is also a wedding venue, hosts the Helders Historical Society, offers beautiful course rooms and meeting rooms and is within walking distance of the train station. A second home where you can search for books, meet others, learn things or just have a cup of coffee. This innovative library makes visitors curious and is located in a striking landmark in the city. Using high-quality materials, Keijsers Interiors realised the warm look the architect incorporated in his design.
